Red Intuition.
Meetings of the Society are held on the third Thursday of each month with the
exception of July, December and January. Meetings commence at 8.00pm and are
held at the Uniting Church Hall in McDonald Street, Como. At each meeting we
have a Guest Speaker who talks to us about the various aspects of roses, gardens
and other varieties of plants. Our experienced members are always available
at meetings and only too willing to share information and answer questions.
In fact one of the Agenda items at the meeting is the Question Time where questions
are asked from the floor and answered by our more experienced members. A Raffle
is held every general meeting, with those members who can donating a prize.
A Door Prize is also drawn at each of our meetings. Visitors are always welcome
at meetings and members are encouraged to bring visitors along.
Also at our monthly meetings we hold Bench Classes. This is a great venue to
learn how to bench your roses. Prize cards are presented and points awarded
for the various categories. These points are accumulated and prizes awarded
at the end of the year at the Annual General Meeting. Members are available
to show you how to and how not to bench your roses. The hall is opened early
so that members can prepare their roses, and vases are provided for member's
use. The bench display provides great experience on how to prepare your roses
for the Autumn and Spring Shows held by the Society. The Society holds these
two major shows each year and the venue is the The Boulevard Centre Underneath The Libary FLOREAT Saturday 1-5 pm Sunday 10-4 pm Information about the shows is published in our quarterly
Journals.
The meetings end with a Supper and members are encouraged to bring a plate to
share. This is an excellent time to socialise with and get to know other members
of the Society. You can also look over the bench display and discuss the exhibits
with the judges and fellow members. AUTUMN SHOW 3rd 4th MAY 2008
During the evening the Society Library is available for the use of members.
The library holds some excellent reference books relating to the different species
of roses, their care, cultivation and propagation. The Rose Society of Western
Australia is affiliated to other Rose Societies in Australia and around the
world, and publications from these Societies are available to members for borrowing
through the library. It is requested that the books, journals, tapes, etc.,
which are borrowed be returned at the following meeting for use by other members.
We encourage the wearing of Name Badges. These are available and can be requested
from the Secretary if not to be found on the table at general meetings. Your
name badge makes you known to other members and is very useful when you are
representing the Society at shows or at Society displays and functions. The
Society has purchased Society Badges and these are also available on request.
The success of our Rose Society depends on active members. Some members are
happy to join the Society and simply receive "The Australian Rose Annual"
and our quarterly Journals. However, members can attend meetings, Bus Trips,
Pruning Demonstrations, Rose Plantings and assist the Society in various public
rose activities undertaken by the Society. Many members volunteer their time
during the Spring and Autumn shows in various ways and this is greatly appreciated.
Some members nominate for Council and this too is important, as it is this Council
which manages the day to day running of the Society.
For any further information about our Society please Contact the Society Secretary,

All visitors are most welcome.
